Shield is 100 percent black-founded, and female-led. The purpose of the creation of Shield Villagery is to offer underprivileged female youths ages 12 through 19, with an opportunity to overcome adversity in their communities, academics, and faiths. Our goal is to develop these youths into productive members of society by providing them with a stable foundation of experiences, life-lessons, and knowledge to advance into adulthood successfully. The activities performed by this non-profit will be, bi-weekly 90-minute lectures covering topics including but not limited to: financial decisons, ACT test prep, establishing goals, registering for college and trade schools, resume building, self-defense classes, etiquette training, and bible studies. The nonprofit will also include quarterly events, where these members will meet and enjoy trips and experiences such as, a day at the movies, or trips to amusement parks. An annual event will be held to provide members with awards for their hard work during the year.
These activities are important to the mission of Shield Villagery, because at Shield Villagery we know from experience the difficulties that underprivileged young women face when emerging into the “real-world” as adults. We strive to provide young women with the strengths to succeed as adults. By providing our services, the young women that emerge from the program will become stable, well-rounded individuals, who add to society positively. These individuals will give back to their communities instead of relying on community resources into their adulthood.
